About Lisa Sloan
LISA SLOAN - Voiceover
Born in Ohio to a military family, I traveled overseas and across the United States for free. However, I quickly realized that being the new kid was never going to be fun, no matter where you lived. Luckily, I quickly learned to emulate regional accents and slang in order to fit in, so that even if I wasn’t ‘from around here’ I could sure sound like I was. Which meant I didn’t get beat up after school.
My journey to becoming a voice actor was strewn with precious life experiences, starting with entertaining my parents and their friends with impersonations, then creating answering machine messages and voice mails. Then things really took off with emceeing awards banquets, working with local radio personalities on live radio remotes, collaborating in studio for needed-yesterday commercials, becoming a signature voice in the powersports industry (where I learned to speak motorcycle), narrating audiobooks as well as educational and training modules for healthcare organizations and osha compliance agencies.
When focusing on a project, I go back to the little girl in me that wanted to be heard. Creatively weaving in character and personality as I practice phrases and sentences to attract attention, generate interest and provoke feeling. Doing a psa for infant safety, I can be found cradling my daughter’s well-loved baby doll, reliving those precious yet tiring days. Friends describe me as articulate, warm and confident – a natural encourager, and describe my work as persuasive and engaging. But deep down, very few people know that I developed my talent from the lonely existence of a military upbringing. It was essential for me to feel connected to others, in whatever way i could – performing and entertaining to make others happy was a part of that. Maybe that’s why today, I so enjoy putting my creativity to work for others – it’s a vital, sacred part of who I am.
